Violence Erupts in Jaipur’s Chaumun After Mosque Railing Removal, Four Policemen Injured

News of a major riot is emerging from Chaumun, Jaipur, Rajasthan. There was a massive protest over the removal of a railing outside a mosque. An angry mob pelted stones at the police, injuring four policemen. The situation has been brought under control with the help of additional police forces, but tension remains.

According to media reports, the incident occurred at 3 a.m. at the Chaumun bus stand, about 40 kilometers from Jaipur. Police say that an operation was underway to remove encroachments from the road. A large crowd gathered at the scene and began protesting. Some miscreants then began pelting the police with stones.

Four policemen were seriously injured in the attack. To control the situation, police had to use tear gas and light force. Additional police reinforcements were called in. Police officials stated that the stone-pelters have been detained and a search is underway for others. However, the situation is under control.

Jaipur's Special Police Commissioner, Rahul Prakash, stated that the suspects who pelted stones at the police have been identified and have been detained and questioned. However, some people have fled. He stated that any miscreants will not be spared. He also appealed to the public to ignore rumors and resolve any complaints or issues through dialogue. He also issued a stern warning to those who take the law into their own hands that violations of the law will not be tolerated at any cost.

Media reports indicate that the administration held talks with members of a community on Thursday evening to remove some stones placed outside a mosque in Chaumun. They agreed to remove the stones, following which the administration initiated action. Subsequently, some people began installing iron railings to build a boundary wall.

Administrative officials opposed this, arguing that the encroachment on the road would disrupt traffic. This led to a riot. When the police attempted to pacify them, the crowd became violent and began pelting stones. Four policemen were injured in the stone pelting and have been admitted to the hospital.
