WJAI's Dialogue: Om Prakash Ashk Stresses Importance of Language in Digital Media

The Web Journalists Association of India (WJAI) hosted its fourth dialogue series, featuring senior journalist and former editor Om Prakash Ashk. Ashk emphasized the significance of language in digital media, highlighting its impact on the quality of news.

Ashk, a veteran journalist and former national treasurer of WJAI, stressed that digital media has surpassed print and electronic media in terms of consumption. However, he noted that the rush to publish news quickly has led to a decline in language quality.

"The importance of language in digital media cannot be overstated," Ashk said. "Journalists must carefully select words, assess the impact of their stories, and proofread their content before publication."

Ashk also emphasized the need for language experts in media houses to ensure linguistic accuracy. He cautioned against prioritizing speed over quality, urging journalists to focus on producing better content.

To improve language skills, Ashk recommended reading books by Premchand. He also stressed the importance of self-editing and seeking feedback from others to eliminate errors.

The dialogue series was attended by WJAI's national and state-level office bearers, members, and journalists from across the country via virtual mode.
