World must adopt path of Dharma, says Mohan Bhagwat

RSS chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat said that balance in society and life is religion, which protects us from any extremism. India's tradition calls it the middle path and this is the biggest need of today's world. He said that to become an example for the world, social change will have to start from home. For this, the Sangh has told five changes - family enlightenment, social harmony, environmental protection, self-realization (swadeshi) and following civic duties. For a self-reliant India, give priority to Swadeshi and India's international trade should be done only voluntarily, not under any pressure.

Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat was addressing the second day of the three-day lecture series '100 years of Sangh journey - Naye Kshitij' organized at Vigyan Bhavan on the occasion of Sangh centenary year. During this, Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale, North Zone Prant Sanghchalak Pawan Jindal and Delhi Prant Sanghchalak Dr Anil Agarwal were present on the stage. How does the Sangh work?

Mohan Bhagwat ji said that the work of the Sangh is based on pure sattvik love and social commitment. “The Sangh volunteer does not expect any personal benefit. There are no incentives here, rather there are more disincentives. The volunteers work while experiencing joy in social work.” He clarified that the meaning of life and liberation is experienced through this service. To be friends with gentlemen, to ignore the wicked, to express joy when someone does something good, to have compassion even on the wicked - this is the life value of the Sangh.

What is Hindutva?

On the basic sentiment of Hindutva, he said that Hindutva is truth, love and belongingness. Our sages and saints taught us that life is not for ourselves. This is the reason why India has to play the role of showing the path like an elder brother in the world. This is where the idea of world welfare is born.

In which direction is the world going?

The Sarsanghchalak expressed concern that the world is moving towards fanaticism, discord and unrest. In the last 350 years, the decency of human life has diminished due to consumerist and materialistic outlook. He mentioned the seven social sins mentioned by Gandhiji, “work without hard work, pleasure without wisdom, knowledge without character, business without morality, science without humanity, religion without sacrifice and politics without principles” and said that these have deepened the imbalance in the society.

The path of religion will have to be adopted

Sarsanghchalak ji said that today there is a lack of coordination in the world and the world will have to change its outlook. The world will have to adopt the path of religion. “Dharma is beyond worship and rituals. Dharma is above all types of religion. Dharma teaches us balance - we have to live, society has to live and nature has to live too.” Dharma is the middle path which saves from extremism. Dharma means living with dignity and balance. World peace can be established only with this outlook. Defining religion, he said, “Religion is that which leads us to a balanced life, where diversity is accepted and everyone's existence is respected.” He stressed that this is the world religion and Hindu society will have to unite and present it to the world.

Current situation of the world and solutions

In the global context, he said that discussions are going on about peace, environment and economic inequality, solutions are also being suggested, but the solution seems far away. “For this, one will have to think with authenticity and bring renunciation and sacrifice in life. A balanced intellect and religious vision will have to be developed.”

India maintained restraint even in losses

Discussing India's conduct, the Sarsanghchalak said, “We have always maintained restraint by ignoring our losses. We have helped even those who harmed us in times of crisis. Enmity arises from the ego of individuals and nations, but Hindustan is beyond ego.” He said that Indian society will have to set an example in the world through its conduct.

He said that today there is faith in the credibility of the Sangh in society. “Whatever the Sangh says, the society listens to it.” This trust has been earned through service and social commitment.

Future direction

On the future direction, the Sarsanghchalak said that the aim of the Sangh is to reach all places, classes and levels. Along with this, the gentlemen power doing good work in the society should be connected with each other. This will make the society itself do the work of character building and patriotism like the Sangh. For this, we will have to reach every corner of the society. The Sangh's branch will have to be reached in all places and all classes and levels of the society from the geographical point of view. We will contact the gentlemen power and also make them contact each other.

He said that the Sangh believes that we have to bring goodwill in the society and we will have to meet the opinion makers of the society regularly. A thinking will have to be developed through them. They should work for their society, Hindu society should feel a part of it and they should find solutions to the challenges related to geographical conditions themselves. They should work for the weaker sections. By doing this, the Sangh wants to bring about a change in the nature of the society.

Mohan Bhagwat ji said religious ideas came to India due to aggression from outside. For some reason they were accepted by some people. “Those people are from here, but the distances that were created due to foreign ideology need to be erased. We have to understand the pain of others. Being part of one country, one society and one nation, despite the diversity, we have to move forward with common ancestors and shared cultural heritage. This is necessary for positivity and harmony.
