Zubeen Garg Case: Assam Invokes Treaty With Singapore for Investigation

The Assam government has submitted a formal request to the Ministry of Home Affairs to invoke the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore regarding the investigation into the death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on social media that invoking the MLAT will facilitate cooperation from Singaporean authorities, enabling access to case details and assistance in bringing the accused to justice.

Zubeen Garg's family filed a complaint with the Assam police on Saturday, seeking a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death in Singapore.

The complaint, signed by his wife Garima, sister Palmi Borthakur, and uncle Manoj Borthakur, named Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, Zubeen's manager, as primary suspects. The family wants a comprehensive probe into everyone who was with Zubeen on the day of his death.

Following the complaint, the CID team investigating Zubeen Garg's death visited his residence and recorded statements from family members.

Notably, multiple FIRs have been registered against Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma in various Assam police stations, alleging negligence contributed to Zubeen Garg's death.
