AAP MP Ashok Mittal Announces Permanent Jobs for Families of Punjab Flood Victims

Chandigarh :The devastating floods in Punjab have left behind stories of loss and survival, with dozens of families mourning their primary breadwinners. In response, Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal of the Aam Aadmi Party has announced a decisive measure: every family that lost a member in the disaster will be offered a permanent job at Lovely Professional University (LPU).

“This is not charity, it is responsibility,” Mittal said, stressing that the 43 lives lost “are not just statistics but real victims of a tragedy that has shaken Punjab.”

To complement the job assurance, Mittal has also donated ₹20 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, extending support to the state government’s rehabilitation efforts. He lauded Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his administration for setting up 196 relief camps and safely evacuating more than 20,000 people.

According to Mittal, the LPU team will reach out to every affected family directly. Those who have not yet been contacted have been urged to step forward to ensure no household is left behind. “This initiative is about long-term stability, not just short-term compensation,” he noted, highlighting the importance of employment and dignity in rebuilding lives.

Observers see this move as a rare instance where political leadership translates words into tangible action. By offering jobs instead of symbolic aid, Mittal has set a precedent for how institutions can play a direct role in disaster recovery. For 43 families, it could mean not just relief, but a future rebuilt with certainty.
