Liquor Prices Dip in Goa! Which State Tops the Chart with Higher Rates?

In India, Goa stands out as the state offering the most affordable prices for alcoholic beverages, with Karnataka being the leader in higher rates.
Known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife, Goa is a prominent destination for alcohol enthusiasts. Liquor prices in Goa are notably lower, making it an attractive choice for consumers. The state of Karnataka, on the other hand, witnesses higher prices for alcoholic drinks compared to other states.
This insight comes from a recent study conducted by the All India Alcohol and Wines Association. The study looked into the pricing and taxation policies affecting liquor costs across the nation.
In Goa, popular spirits like whisky, rum, vodka, and gin are priced at around INR 100 per bottle. Contrastingly, the same bottle would cost around INR 134 in Delhi and INR 513 in Karnataka.
In Goa, a 49% tax is imposed on liquor, while Karnataka witnesses a much higher tax rate of 83%. Additionally, Maharashtra imposes a 71% tax on liquor.
The tax variation stems from different states' policies regarding excise duties, sales tax, and Value Added Tax (VAT). These differences contribute to the varying prices of alcohol across the nation.
Furthermore, liquor prices are influenced by the taxation on petroleum products, as petrol and diesel are often used in the production process. Any change in the tax rates for these products also affects alcohol prices in the respective states.
Understanding these factors is crucial for consumers to make informed choices and be aware of the varying prices of alcoholic beverages across different states in India.
