Opposition Delegation Visits Manipur, MP Manoj Kumar Jha Highlights Urgent Need for Peace and Justice

Recent visit to Manipur, Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Kumar Jha of the Rastriya Janata Dal (RJD) was part of a 21-member Opposition delegation that witnessed the dire situation in the strife-torn state. The delegation visited relief camps and met with victims, gaining first-hand insights into the extent of the crisis.
Expressing his emotions about the visit, Jha revealed that despite having prior information about the situation, experiencing it on the ground was overwhelming. He highlighted that the conflict in Manipur was a result of the failure of both the state and Union governments. Inter-community relationships were shattered, and education and communication were severely disrupted due to the ongoing strife.
Jha pointed out the failure of the government machinery, stating that both the Kuki and Meitei communities expressed deep dissatisfaction with the insensitivity shown by the authorities. He shared a poignant example of Kuki families being saved by Meitei families and vice versa, emphasizing the importance of building bridges between communities. Unfortunately, the government seemed content with witnessing the deterioration of inter-community relations.
The common demand echoed by the people of Manipur was the restoration of normalcy, which could only be achieved through justice and peace. The disruption caused by the conflict has left lives in disarray, and residents yearn to return to their original homes and lead peaceful lives. Jha emphasized that the government should have addressed minor grievances and displayed empathy and wisdom in its administration, which could have expedited the return to normalcy within a short period.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to Governor Anusuiya Uikey, who received it and agreed with their findings. The Governor was visibly disturbed by the situation and supported the delegation's appeal for peace. She suggested that an all-party delegation should organize a rally to further promote harmony and justice in the region.
As the situation in Manipur remains critical, MP Manoj Kumar Jha emphasized the urgent need for peace and justice, urging the state and Union governments to take concrete actions to resolve the conflict and rebuild inter-community relations.
