AIADMK-BJP Alliance: 9 Assembly Seats Likely for TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK Ahead of Tamil Nadu Polls

With the Tamil Nadu Assembly election approaching, seat-sharing negotiations within the AIADMK-led alliance have begun to gather momentum. The alliance, which includes the BJP and TTV Dhinakaran’s Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), is currently engaged in behind-the-scenes discussions over constituency allocation.
Sources indicate that AMMK may be allotted nine Assembly constituencies in the alliance arrangement. While the arrangement has not yet been formally announced, details of the constituencies likely to be assigned to the party have begun to emerge.
The AIADMK is preparing for the upcoming Assembly polls with the objective of returning to power. The BJP is a key partner in the alliance, and the inclusion of AMMK—led by TTV Dhinakaran, who had earlier been a political rival of AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami—has added another layer to the coalition’s electoral arithmetic.
So far, the AIADMK leadership has not issued an official statement on the final seat-sharing formula among alliance partners. However, internal consultations among the parties are understood to be underway.
According to sources familiar with the negotiations, the AMMK initially sought 13 Assembly constituencies as part of the alliance agreement. The proposal was not accepted by Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Following further discussions, the AIADMK leadership is said to have agreed in principle to allot nine constituencies to the AMMK.
An agreement formalising the arrangement is expected to be signed soon.Meanwhile, an NDA alliance conference is scheduled to be held in Tiruchirappalli on Wednesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend and address the gathering. Following the event, the AIADMK is likely to begin formal seat-sharing discussions with its alliance partners and move towards finalising the agreements.
Likely constituencies for AMMK
Amid these developments, information has surfaced regarding the constituencies that may be allocated to the AMMK within the AIADMK-BJP alliance.
According to party sources, the constituencies under consideration include: Sholinghur in Ranipet district; Andipatti in Theni district; Ottapidaram (SC) in Thoothukudi district; Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district; Pudukottai; Harur (SC) in Dharmapuri district; Melur in Madurai district; Papanasam in Thanjavur district; and Musiri in Tiruchirappalli district.
Sources said that the AMMK had earlier submitted a list of preferred constituencies to the BJP leadership. The list was subsequently shared with Edappadi K. Palaniswami. After reviewing the proposal, the AIADMK leadership is believed to have considered allocating these nine constituencies to the AMMK.
Among the constituencies under discussion, Theni district’s Andipatti Assembly segment is likely to see TTV Dhinakaran contest as the AMMK candidate. He had earlier expressed interest in contesting from the constituency, and party sources indicate that his candidature from Andipatti is almost certain.
It is also learnt that the BJP, which had initially sought around 60 constituencies in the alliance negotiations, may eventually be allotted about 29 seats by the AIADMK leadership. The final seat-sharing arrangement is expected to be announced after the ongoing rounds of discussions conclude.
