“Politics Is Not Cinema Dialogue”: Ranjana Nachiyar Targets Vijay After TVK Protest

Tamil Nadu’s political arena has begun to heat up. Actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has been particularly active in recent days. The party on Thursday organised large-scale protest demonstrations across district headquarters in the state.

However, comments made by Ranjana Nachiyar about the protest have now triggered a political debate. What exactly happened?

The large protest was organised under the coordination of key party functionaries, including TVK General Secretary Bussy Anand. Political observers view the demonstration as an attempt by the party to showcase its organisational strength.

Two key demands formed the core of the protest led by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The first was a call for an immediate caste-based census in Tamil Nadu to ensure social justice.

The second demand was the relaxation of strict restrictions imposed on public meetings and political gatherings by parties. Cadres gathered across the state and raised slogans pressing these demands, which many viewed as a political prelude to Vijay’s growing political presence.

However, the protest has also drawn criticism because party president Vijay did not participate directly, with the demonstrations instead led by party functionaries.

“Politics Is Not a Place for Cinema Dialogues”

It is in this context that Ranjana Nachiyar’s remarks have drawn attention. She said a political party leader must surround himself with people who possess genuine knowledge — a remark that many interpret as a criticism of Vijay’s advisory circle.

“Politics is not a place to deliver cinema dialogues; it is a platform that demands responsibility,” she said. While criticism of film personalities entering politics is not new, Nachiyar’s remarks have resonated strongly in political circles.

She further said that those aspiring to become Chief Minister must take to the streets and struggle among the people, adding that such a goal cannot be achieved without hard work and sustained political engagement.

Renewed Criticism

Ranjana Nachiyar had earlier strongly criticised Vijay over his “worth illai” remark made last week. Her renewed criticism now appears unlikely to be accidental.

She stressed that politics is not merely about organising large gatherings but about maintaining direct engagement with the public.

At the same time, reports suggesting that Ranjana Nachiyar may soon join the DMK have triggered speculation that a broader political calculation could lie behind her remarks. Whether she is emerging as a voice aligned with the ruling party or speaking purely as an independent critic may become clear in the coming days.

For now, the key question may not be the extent of the public response to TVK’s protest, but how criticisms from figures such as Ranjana Nachiyar could affect the party’s image.

Tamil Nadu’s political arena has always been a challenging terrain. For Vijay, who is moving towards the upcoming elections with growing political ambitions, such criticism may serve as both a warning and a moment for political recalibration.
