Vijay Under Fire for Fielding Controversial Candidates in Tamil Nadu Polls

Criticism has emerged that in the TVK candidates list, more priority has been given to those who joined from other parties rather than to those who worked for the party. In this situation, it has also come to light that Vijay has fielded candidates who are caught in criminal cases and controversies.

With the Tamil Nadu Assembly election date announced, the filing of nominations has also begun. Actor Vijay, who has made his entry into the political field for the first time, has announced that his TVK will contest independently in all 234 constituencies in this Assembly election and has fielded candidates accordingly.

Criticism has emerged that in the TVK candidates list, more importance has been given to those who joined from other parties than to those who worked for the party. In this context, it has been revealed that Vijay has fielded candidates who are caught in criminal cases and controversies.

D. Chandra Gandeevan, who has been fielded in the Peravurani constituency, is a former BJP functionary. After leaving the BJP and joining TVK, he has been given an opportunity to contest by Vijay. The allotment of a seat to Chandra Gandeevan, who was arrested in a ganja case and is currently out on bail, has created a major controversy.

Opportunity given to one who speaks caste pride

Similarly, B.L.A. Jaganath Mishra, who is contesting from the Kambam constituency on behalf of TVK, has been seen in a video speaking proudly about belonging to a particular caste. Criticism has arisen questioning whether a person who speaks of caste pride should be given an opportunity to contest in a party that has positioned Periyar as its ideological leader.

Maria Selvan issues death threats

Maria Selvan, who is contesting from the Chennai R.K. Nagar constituency, is the son-in-law of Jeppiaar, the founder of the well-known Jeppiaar educational institutions in Tamil Nadu. Videos of him allegedly attempting to attack some individuals and issuing death threats have gone viral on social media. V. Pandiyan, who is contesting from the Andipatti constituency, has also been embroiled in controversy for using derogatory language.

Sexual case against TVK candidate

R.T. Kanimozhi, who is contesting from the Kavundampalayam constituency on behalf of TVK, has old videos circulating in which she claimed that there are astrological remedies for cancer and that Vijay cannot become Chief Minister. S. Lakshmanan, who is contesting from the Salem West constituency, is facing pending criminal cases including a land-grab case.

A sexual case has been registered against Prakash, the TVK candidate from the Poonamallee constituency. A woman belonging to the TVK women’s wing had filed a sexual complaint at the Thiruvallur SP office, following which a case has been registered against the candidate Prakash.

Vijay left isolated

Despite repeatedly calling for alliances by promising a share in power, no political party has turned towards Vijay. As a result, he has been compelled to contest independently. While Vijay’s party has managed to field candidates in all 234 constituencies, the continuous complaints emerging against the candidates have become a headache for him.
