Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, CMD of NHPC & THDC, Engages in Crucial Meeting with Hon'ble Lt. Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Sh. Manoj Sinha

Rishikesh: Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, the Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC (National Hydroelectric Power Corporation) and THDC (Tehri Hydro Development Corporation), recently convened a significant meeting with Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Sh. Manoj Sinha.

During the meeting, Sh. Vishnoi underscored the paramount importance of developing Mega Hydro Projects to tap into the vast untapped hydropower potential within the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. This initiative, he emphasized, would serve as a pivotal milestone in the overall development of the UT, fostering prosperity, social upliftment, and significantly contributing to the nation's energy and water security.

Sh. Vishnoi informed that the Government of India has set an ambitious target to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2070. Jammu & Kashmir plays a crucial role in this mission, boasting a total hydropower potential of approximately 20 Gigawatts. He highlighted that Central CPSUs (Central Public Sector Undertakings) like THDC India Limited and NHPC, with their core expertise in the hydro sector, are optimally positioned for efficient and cost-effective utilization of hydro energy. Sh. Vishnoi pointed out that THDC India Limited and NHPC have already demonstrated their prowess in harnessing Mega Hydro Projects across various regions of the country, encompassing all aspects of hydro energy, from construction to operation and maintenance.

The Hon’ble Lt. Governor expressed his appreciation for NHPC's commendable efforts in the development of hydropower projects in Jammu & Kashmir. He assured Sh. Vishnoi of unwavering support from the UT administration and local authorities to expedite the implementation of upcoming projects. Furthermore, he pledged full cooperation in exploring and harnessing new hydro projects.

Sh. Vishnoi, CMD, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Lt. Governor for his invaluable guidance and support. He reaffirmed his commitment to take prompt action in collaboration with THDC and NHPC towards the realization of new hydro projects in Jammu & Kashmir.
