Sitharaman's Counter-India Was The Weakest Under Former PM Manmohan Singh

New Delhi. Hitting back at former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the economy, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that he is remembered for making India the weakest and for the high inflation in the country. Sitharaman accused Manmohan Singh of trying to pull India back for political reasons, which despite the Covid pandemic, is the fastest growing large economy and is likely to remain the same next year as well. The Finance Minister said, "I have great respect for you (Manmohan). I didn't expect this from you." He wanted to know if he was doing this keeping in mind the Punjab Assembly elections.
The Union minister also referred to the recent revelations about former NSE chief Chitra Ramakrishna taking the advice of a 'Himalayan-based yogi' to run the country's largest stock exchange and said Singh would have to wait a long time while in power. Till then didn't even know how things were going. Sitharaman also compared export and foreign direct investment figures during the tenures of Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi. The minister said that Manmohan Singh is remembered as a prime minister during whose tenure for 22 consecutive months, inflation was in doubles and capital was going out of the country. He also accused those targeting the Modi government over inflation of creating confusion over the issue.
