10 Days On, Asia Cup Trophy Still Missing from India’s Cabinet After Win Over Pakistan

It’s been 10 days since India triumphed over Pakistan in the final of the 2025 Asia Cup in Dubai, securing their ninth title. Yet, celebrations remain on hold—not because of the players or the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), but because the trophy has still not reached Indian soil. In an unusual and controversial turn of events, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly kept the trophy with him, leaving players and fans alike frustrated.

According to reports, Naqvi left the stadium with the Asia Cup trophy and has yet to provide any clear explanation or timeline for its return. When the BCCI confronted him, Naqvi allegedly demanded a private ceremony where he could personally hand over the trophy to the Indian team. The BCCI has refused, holding firm on its stance, unwilling to indulge the ACC chief's unusual request. The stalemate continues.

Footage circulating online shows Naqvi still in possession of the trophy. Initially taken to his hotel room, it was later moved to the ACC headquarters in Dubai. Despite assumptions that the matter would be resolved quickly, the trophy has yet to be handed over more than a week later.

Naqvi, who has avoided public appearances since the awkward post-match presentation ceremony, resurfaced briefly at Pakistan cricketer Abrar Ahmed’s wedding. When pressed by journalists with questions like “Where is the Asia Cup trophy?” and “What is your response to Suryakumar Yadav’s comments?”, he remained silent, offering only a sheepish smile before being escorted away by Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi.

Reports suggest that Naqvi felt “insulted” during the presentation, claiming he was left standing alone on the podium and ignored by both teams during a delayed press conference. India, it’s said, had requested the trophy be presented by someone else—a condition Naqvi refused to accept. In another sign of discord, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha was seen throwing away the runner-up cheque in Naqvi’s presence.

The BCCI has reportedly decided to escalate the matter to the ICC, though it's unclear whether the global body will intervene. For now, despite India’s unbeaten run and three wins over Pakistan in the tournament, they continue to wait for the trophy they rightfully earned.
