A shameful record in Champions Trophy history; this became a nightmare for Pakistan

Champions Trophy 2025 has become a nightmare for the Pakistan cricket team. Even while playing on home ground, the host team failed to win a single match, adding an embarrassing record to their name. This was the first time in the history of the tournament that a full-member host nation could not win a single match. Pakistan's last group stage match was against Bangladesh, but due to rain, the toss could not take place and both the teams had to be content with one point each. After this result, Pakistan reached the bottom of the points table and their Champions Trophy 2025 journey ended without any win.

Let us tell you that a total of eight editions of the Champions Trophy have been played so far. Earlier, it has never happened that the host nation has not won a single match in the tournament. However, in the year 1998, when the ICC Knockout Tournament was organized under the hosting of Kenya, during that time India defeated Kenya in the very first match and knocked them out of the tournament. But at that time all the matches in this tournament were played like knockout matches, whichever team lost the match was out of the tournament.

At the same time, in the year 2002, its name was changed from Knockout Tournament to Champions Trophy. Since then till 2017, it never happened that a host nation did not win a single match in the tournament. But in the Champions Trophy 2025, this shameful record was added to Pakistan's name, in this edition the team could not win a single match. Pakistan played two matches in this tournament. Their first match was against New Zealand, where they had to face defeat by 60 runs. After that, India also defeated the host team by 6 wickets. Their last group-stage match was against Bangladesh, which was canceled due to rain. In such a situation, the journey of Champions Trophy 2025 ended without a win for Pakistan.

Talking about Group A, India and New Zealand have already confirmed their place in the semi-finals. The hosts have suffered another setback due to the cancellation of the match between Bangladesh and Pakistan. After the group stage, both Bangladesh and Pakistan have 3-3 points in the points table. However, due to poor net run rate, the host team remained at the last position in the points table, while Bangladesh finished the tournament at number three.
