BCCI Secretary Saikia Inspects Wankhede Ahead of India's T20 World Cup Opener Against USA

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia on Saturday met the Indian cricket team and reviewed preparations ahead of their opening fixture against the USA at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The encounter marks India's campaign in the ICC T20 Men's World Cup 2026 as defending champions.
Saikia also inspected arrangements for the opening ceremony to be held before the match.
Final Preparations Reviewed
The BCCI secretary shared photos of his visit on X, showing him in discussions with skipper Suryakumar Yadav, coach Gautam Gambhir, and ground management staff.
"Inspected & discussed the final-minute preparations of Team India, and also reviewed the hosting arrangements for the ICC T20 Men's World Cup, 2026, starting today at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai," Saikia wrote.
₹7.5 Crore for U19 Champions
Saikia recently announced a cash prize of ₹7.5 crore for the India U19 team following their sixth World Cup title victory against England in Zimbabwe on Friday.
"The BCCI Honorary Secretary announces a cash award of ₹7.5 crore for the victorious India U19 team, along with the coaching and support staff and the Junior Cricket Committee, following their glorious unbeaten campaign," the board stated.
India Eye Historic Treble
The senior team enters the tournament with multiple records in sight:
- First team to defend T20 World Cup title
- First team to win the trophy at home
- First team to win three T20 World Cups (after 2007 and 2024)
Group A Fixtures
India is placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, the Netherlands, Namibia, and the USA. The top two teams will advance to the Super 8 round.
Suryakumar Yadav's squad begins their title defense against the USA at the Wankhede, a venue steeped in Indian cricket history.
