Neeraj Chopra Triumphs at Windy Bengaluru; Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Impresses at NC Classic

Neeraj Chopra battled swirling winds and tough conditions to win the first-ever Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru with a huge throw of 86.18m. Despite a shaky start and a foul first throw, he quickly found his rhythm, outdoing his competitors including his friend Julius Yego and Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage.

Everyone found the event difficult because of the unpredictable winds; even elite throwers, like Thomas Rohler of Germany, had difficulty. However, Neeraj remained steadfast and resilient, demonstrating why he is among the greatest in the world.

Fellow Indian Sachin Yadav also impressed with a solid 82.33m, finishing fourth and proving he’s a rising star to watch ahead of the 2028 Olympics.

After the event, Neeraj shared how nervous he was both as an athlete and organizer but was happy with how it all turned out. He hopes to grow the event into a bigger athletics competition in the years to come.

Final top 3:

1. Neeraj Chopra (86.18m)

2. Julius Yego (84.51m)

3. Rumesh Pathirage (84.34m)

A great day for Indian javelin!
