Ravindra Jadeja Reacts to ODI Omission for Australia Series, Keeps 2027 World Cup Dream Alive

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has addressed his non-selection for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, starting October 19 in Perth. The decision raised a few eyebrows, especially considering Jadeja was a key member of India’s Champions Trophy-winning squad just eight months ago.

Despite the omission, Jadeja confirmed that the selectors had communicated their decision to him in advance. Speaking to reporters after Day 2 of the second Test against the West Indies, where he picked up three wickets, the 36-year-old said he understood the reasoning shared by the team management.

“It is not in my hands. I want to play, but at the end of the day, it’s about what the captain, coach, selectors, and management think. They must have had their reasons. They did speak to me — it wasn’t a surprise during the squad announcement,” Jadeja explained.

Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar had earlier clarified that Jadeja remains in the frame for the 2027 ODI World Cup and that the decision not to include him for the Australia series was to avoid overloading the squad with spinners for conditions Down Under.

Jadeja, who played in the 2023 World Cup where India finished runners-up to Australia, expressed his desire to be part of the next edition in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.

“To win the World Cup is a dream for every cricketer. Last time, we fell short in the final. Hopefully, next time, we go one step further,” he said. “There are many ODIs before the 2027 World Cup. If I get the opportunity and perform well, it will be good for Indian cricket.”

With over 200 ODIs under his belt, Jadeja has scored 2,806 runs and taken 231 wickets, proving his value as a dependable all-rounder. His recent performance against the West Indies further underlines his continued impact in the longer format.

Despite the temporary setback, Jadeja remains optimistic and focused, with his sights firmly set on contributing to India’s success on the global stage once again.
