Virat Kohli Reacts First as IPL 2025 Cancelled Amid India-Pakistan Tensions; Bumrah, Suryakumar Also Speak Out

As military tensions between India and Pakistan reach a boiling point, Indian cricketing legend Virat Kohli took to social media to express his heartfelt support for the armed forces. With missile strikes, air raid sirens, and heightened troop activity reported across the Line of Control and border areas—including Jammu, Pathankot, and parts of Punjab and Rajasthan—the situation has cast a shadow over national life, even bringing the IPL 2025 season to a sudden halt.

Sharing a message on Instagram, Kohli wrote, “We stand in solidarity with, and salute our armed forces for fiercely protecting our country in these difficult times. We are forever indebted to our heroes for their unwavering bravery and heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifices they and their families make for our great nation.”

His message came in the wake of Pakistan’s attempted missile and drone attacks on Indian cities late Thursday night—strikes that were successfully thwarted by India’s armed forces.

Kohli wasn’t the only cricketer to speak out. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah also posted a message of gratitude on X, saying, “Grateful to our armed forces for their courage and bravery. We salute them and remain forever in their debt for everything that they do to keep us safe.”

T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav echoed the sentiment, writing, “Massively proud of our forces and their resilience. You are the reason we stay unharmed at our homes. Big salute to your strength and determination in protecting us at borders. We thank you. Jai Hind.”

The IPL’s indefinite suspension came shortly after Thursday’s match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was called off mid-way due to rising security concerns. With air raid warnings issued in nearby Jammu and Pathankot, players were escorted out of the venue and the stadium was evacuated. That match, which could have determined Punjab Kings’ spot in the playoffs, ended without result—leaving the IPL points table unchanged.

The BCCI is keeping close contact with government authorities as the situation continues to unfold. With several league matches and the entire playoff stage still left, there’s a big question mark over what lies ahead for IPL 2025. Talks are reportedly on about possibly rescheduling the tournament or even shifting the remaining matches to a safer, neutral location—if and when the security situation improves.

Earlier, India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma also spoke out, saluting the Army, Navy, and Air Force for their courage. He urged people to stand together and not fall for or spread misinformation at a time when the country needs unity the most.
