WhatsApp Down for Thousands of Users Across India

Thousands of WhatsApp users across India are experiencing disruptions to the Meta-owned messaging platform on Friday, with outage-tracking website Downdetector recording a sharp spike in complaint reports beginning around 9:16 AM, peaking at approximately 11:30 AM.

According to Downdetector data, nearly 66 per cent of affected users reported issues with the web version of WhatsApp, while 30 per cent flagged problems with the mobile app. The remaining four per cent cited login-related difficulties — suggesting the WhatsApp Web platform is bearing the brunt of the outage.

Users have reported a range of issues, with the most common complaints being messages failing to deliver and login failures on WhatsApp Web. Frustrated users flocked to Elon Musk's X to vent and verify whether the disruption was widespread — a now-familiar pattern whenever WhatsApp experiences an outage.

As of the time of publishing, Meta has not issued any official statement acknowledging the disruption or providing an estimated timeline for resolution. It remains unclear whether the outage is limited to India or affects users in other regions as well.
