UP police's special task force encountered Mohd Asad, a mafia who killed attorney; Yogi Adityanath praised the UP STF team

Mohd Asad, 20, and Ghulam Mohd, 40, the third son of jailed gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed, were shot and murdered by UP police's special task unit on Thursday after they were apprehended fleeing on a bike near Jhansi.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, praised the UP STF team that participated in the firing and convened a high-level conference to discuss the state's law and order situation.

Jaya Pal, the wife of Umesh Pal, commended the UP government's efforts in combating the mafia and thugs and referred to CM Yogi as a father figure. "He executed his daughter's husband's murderer. I thank you, and justice has been served.

Since being suspected of killing Prayagraj attorney Umesh Pal, the key witness in the 2005 murder of BSP lawmaker Raju Pal, both have spent the last 50 days on the run. The two brothers Atiq and Ashraf are the prime suspects in the MLA's slaying.

With these deaths, a total of four people who were reportedly engaged in Pal's murder have now died. Police got information that the two were going to ambush a convoy transporting Atiq from the Sabarmati prison to Prayagraj through Jhansi, according to Special DG (law and order) Prashant Kumar.

Vijay Chaudhary and Arbaaz, two further suspects in the murder of Umesh Pal, were killed by police on Thursday in Prayagraj.

The STF troops caught up to Asad and Ghulam after a cat-and-mouse pursuit that began early in the morning near the Parichha power plant in Jhansi, according to the police. They were carrying rewards of Rs 5 lakh each. A Walther handgun, a British Bulldog revolver, and ammo were subsequently discovered on the pair after they were murdered in retaliatory action at 12:45 p.m., according to authorities.

According to Special DG (law and order) Prashant Kumar, police got information that the two wanted men intended to ambush a convoy transporting Atiq from Sabarmati jail to Prayagraj through Jhansi for questioning in the February 24 shooting death of Umesh Pal.

Specialised UP police squads were instructed to keep watch throughout the district with assistance from the police. Around 12.30 p.m., the two were caught by two teams of five people, one commanded by DSP Navendu and the other by DSP Vimal Kumar Singh.

However, the two opened fire and sped off into the woods. The cops cornered them close to the power plant and demanded their surrender. But they resumed their firing. Police replied, and the two fell to the ground, according to Kumar.

The Asad and Ghulam were located during a search that spanned five states, according to STF ADG Amitabh Yash. Eight cases were filed against Ghulam.

When his attorneys informed him of the passing of his son, Atiq was in the Prayagraj CJM's court for a hearing on his remand plea. Despite seeming uneasy, the mobster "kept his composure," according to attorney Daya Shankar Mishra.
