On the occasion of India's 77th Republic Day, US President Donald Trump extended his greetings to the Indian government and the people of the country. He stated that the relationship between India and the United States is not merely diplomatic, but a strong and historic one rooted in democratic values.
Trump said: "Democracy connects us."
In a message shared by the US Embassy, President Trump stated that the United States and India are the world's oldest and largest democracies, and that the two countries share a deep historical connection. He stated that on behalf of the American people, he extends his heartfelt Republic Day greetings to the people of India.

On this occasion, the US Embassy in New Delhi also shared a photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Donald Trump, taken during PM Modi's visit to the US last year. This is being seen as a symbol of the strong ties between the two countries.
Quad and defense cooperation also emphasized
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also congratulated India on Republic Day. He praised India-US cooperation, noting that the two countries are working together in the fields of defense, energy, critical minerals, and emerging technologies. He described cooperation under the Quad (India, the United States, Japan, and Australia) as crucial for the Indo-Pacific region.
US Ambassador Participates in Parade
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor participated in the Republic Day parade, held on duty. He said it was a matter of pride for him to participate in the parade for the first time. He described the American-made aircraft flying in Indian skies as a strong symbol of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Statement Comes Amid Tariff Dispute
Trump's message comes at a time of trade tensions in India-US relations. The US has imposed tariffs of up to 50 percent on Indian products, 25 percent of which is said to be a penalty for purchasing oil from Russia.
India has termed these tariffs as unfair and stated that it will take all necessary steps to protect its national interests and economic security.
Trump has praised Modi in Davos
Recently, in Davos, Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a close friend. He expressed hope that a trade agreement between India and the US could be reached soon.
This statement comes at a time when the two countries are holding high-level talks on issues related to tariffs, energy, and agriculture.
