Helicopter Carrying 22 People Goes Missing in Russia's Kamchatka Region

A helicopter flying with 22 people has gone missing in Russia. Information about this was given on Saturday, and local media said that apart from 19 passengers, there were 3 crew members in the helicopter. It is being told that this helicopter disappeared from the radar soon after take-off. According to media reports, when the aircraft went missing, it flew near the Vachkazhets volcano in the Kamchatka region of the Far East. A search operation has been started to find the helicopter.

Giving information about the incident, Russia's state news agency said that the Mi-8T helicopter operated by Vityaz-Aero airline lost contact after taking off at 7.15 am. According to emergency services, the Mi-8T helicopter disappeared from the radar soon after takeoff, although the crew did not report any problems before losing contact. The helicopter had 19 passengers and three crew members on board. Media reports also suggest that low visibility was recorded by the Kamchatka Hydrometeorological Centre in the area of Nikolayevka Airport, where contact with the helicopter was lost.

An aircraft has been dispatched to search for the mysteriously disappeared helicopter. However, no clue has been found yet. A committee has been formed regarding this matter, which has started investigating the incident under Article 263 of the Criminal Code related to the violation of traffic safety rules and the operation of air transport. Rescue teams have also been deployed in the settlement of Volcano and Nikolayevka to help in the rescue operation. Let us tell you that the Mi-8T is a twin-engine helicopter designed in the 1960s.
