Helicopter Crashes In Nepal's Khotang District; All On Board Safe

A helicopter crashed while attempting to land in Nepal's remote Khotang district on Wednesday, March 18, after losing control at a temporary landing site in an agricultural field. The aircraft sustained significant damage, but all crew members and passengers escaped unharmed.

The helicopter had flown from Kathmandu on a special mission to transport a body for cremation in Khotang. As the pilot attempted to set down at a makeshift landing site, the aircraft lost control and struck the ground. Khotang Chief District Officer Rekha Kandel confirmed the incident, stating that no casualties had been reported and that detailed information was being gathered. Investigators are examining whether a technical fault or adverse weather conditions caused the crash.

The accident is the latest in a long series of helicopter incidents in Nepal, where over 70 per cent of all air accidents involve rotary-wing aircraft. The country's rugged terrain, narrow mountain valleys, and unpredictable weather patterns consistently pose severe challenges to pilots, particularly at improvised or temporary landing sites where there is little margin for error.
