Imran Khan alleges ‘harsh treatment’ in jail, points to Asim Munir’s personal grudge

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has appealed to his party members to hold Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir responsible if anything happens to him in jail, citing "harsh treatment" he and his wife are facing.
In a detailed post on X, Khan, who has been imprisoned in Adiala jail for the past two years along with his wife Bushra Bibi, said they are being denied basic human rights.
Khan, 72, who was removed from power through a no-confidence vote and has been behind bars since 2023 following multiple corruption convictions, wrote that the harsh treatment has recently worsened. He said his wife's television was even switched off, and both are being stripped of all legal and human rights as prisoners.
He accused a colonel and the jail superintendent of acting on orders from Asim Munir. “If anything happens to me in jail, Asim Munir must be held accountable,” Khan warned.
Khan had earlier described his imprisonment as being caged like a "terrorist" in a "death cell."
This message comes just days before Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) plans nationwide protests demanding Khan’s release. These protests are expected to be led by Khan’s two sons, Suleman Isa Khan and Kasim Khan, who have so far stayed away from politics.
Earlier this month, Khan’s former wife Jemima Goldsmith revealed that Khan has been in solitary confinement for nearly two years and that his sons have not been allowed to communicate with him.
Khan also suggested that the harsh treatment from Munir stems from a personal issue during his time as prime minister. After Munir was removed as ISI chief, he reportedly tried to arrange a meeting with Bushra Bibi through PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari, but she refused.
