India condemns eggs thrown at Rath Yatra in Canada: “Such despicable acts go against the spirit of the festival”

After a video surfaced showing eggs being thrown at a Rath Yatra procession in Toronto, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal called the incident “regrettable” and said it goes against the spirit of the festival. He added that India has strongly raised the issue with Canadian authorities, urging them to hold those responsible accountable.

“We have seen reports of disruption caused by mischievous elements during the Rath Yatra in Toronto. Such acts are deeply regrettable and contradict the festival’s message of unity, inclusivity, and harmony,” Jaiswal said.

“We expect the Canadian government to take necessary steps to protect religious rights,” he added.

The video was shared by Instagram user Sangna Bajaj, who was part of the procession. She can be seen singing devotional songs, but as the procession moved into a quieter area, broken eggs littered the street. Bajaj said people from a nearby building had thrown the eggs at them, but emphasized that the attempt to stop the procession failed.

“We were stunned and hurt, but we didn’t stop. Hate can never overpower faith,” she said.
