India's Rightful Place: Former Singapore Diplomat Advocates for India's Permanent Membership in the UN Security Council

Former Singapore diplomat Professor Kishore Mahbubani has advocated for India to be given permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council. He said that there is an urgent need to reform the United Nations Security Council. Also, India should get its rightful place as a permanent member of the top body of the United Nations.

Professor Kishore Mahbubani said, "There is no doubt that India is the third most powerful country in the world today after the United States and China and Great Britain is no longer 'great'."

Professor Kishore Mahbubani argued why Britain should leave its seat. He said that Britain has not used its veto power for decades for fear of backlash. He said, "So the logical thing for Britain is to leave its seat for India."

The former diplomat said, "The lesson that (the founders of the United Nations) learned from the collapse of the League of Nations in the early 20th century is that if a great power leaves, the organization collapses."

He said, "Another reason for the UK to give up its seat is that it will give them the freedom to work independently."
