Netanyahu Warns Qatar After Strikes in Doha, Draws Parallel to 9/11 Attacks

Days after Israel launched targeted airstrikes in Doha aimed at Hamas leadership, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stern warning to Qatar, invoking the memory of the 9/11 attacks in the United States.
In a message posted on X, Netanyahu called on Qatar to expel Hamas leaders and bring them to justice. He warned that if Qatar fails to act, Israel will take matters into its own hands: “We’ll get the job done,” he said.
The Israeli prime minister drew a direct comparison between the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, and the September 11, 2001, attacks in the U.S., calling both events acts of terrorism carried out by Islamist extremists.
“We also have a September 11th. We remember October 7th,” Netanyahu said in a video message released on the eve of the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. “On that day, Islamist terrorists committed the worst savagery against the Jewish people since the Holocaust.”
Netanyahu further justified Israel’s ongoing campaign against Hamas by comparing it to the U.S. response following 9/11. “What did America do in the wake of September 11th? It promised to hunt down the terrorists wherever they were,” he said. “We did exactly what America did—pursued the terrorists who slaughtered our people, just as the U.S. did with al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden.”
However, the Israeli strikes in Doha have drawn criticism, even from close allies. Former U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly described the operation as a "unilateral move" and, according to a Wall Street Journal report, had a heated phone exchange with Netanyahu following the strikes.
