Pakistan Responds to PM Modi’s Operation Sindoor Address: ‘Hope India Will Show Restraint’

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful national address celebrating the success of Operation Sindoor, Pakistan reacted sharply, calling his remarks “provocative and inflammatory.” The Indian military operation, launched on May 7, targeted and destroyed terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians.

In his Monday night speech, PM Modi praised the Indian armed forces for carrying out the high-precision strikes and warned that while India had agreed to a ceasefire, the retaliation had only been paused — not ended. He underlined that the ceasefire was initiated at Pakistan’s request and delivered a firm message: “Terror and talks can’t go hand-in-hand, just as terror and trade can’t coexist… water and blood cannot flow together.”

The statement sparked an immediate response from Pakistan. In a press release quoted by Reuters, Pakistan’s foreign ministry rejected Modi’s comments, urging India to avoid escalating tensions. “Pakistan rejects the provocative and inflammatory assertions by the Indian Prime Minister,” the statement read, adding that the country “remains committed to the recent ceasefire understanding” and “hopes India will prioritise regional stability and the well-being of its citizens.” It also warned that any further aggression would be met with “full resolve.”

PM Modi doubled down on his message on Tuesday, during a surprise visit to the Adampur Air Force base near Jalandhar in Punjab. Addressing air force personnel involved in the operation, he said, “India desires peace, but if provoked, we are fully prepared to make our enemies bite the dust.”

Ceasefire and Tensions at the Border

After four days of intense military engagement, India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire understanding on May 10, agreeing to halt all operations across land, sea, and air. The announcement, also acknowledged by former US President Donald Trump, came under strain quickly. Just hours later, Pakistani drones were reportedly spotted over Jammu, Srinagar, Punjab, and Rajasthan.

More drone activity was seen on Monday night, shortly after PM Modi’s address, with alerts sounded in border areas of Jammu and Punjab. However, no fresh incidents were reported overnight, and the situation remained under control.

The recent escalation was triggered by India’s Operation Sindoor — a coordinated set of air and missile strikes targeting nine terror hubs across Pakistan and PoK. Indian officials confirmed that several high-value terrorists were eliminated in the operation.

The Indian government has sent a clear message: peace remains the goal, but not at the cost of national security.

India and has maintained that the operation was a direct and proportional response to the brutal Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
