PM Modi Invites Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman to Visit India with Family

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited his Bangladeshi counterpart Tarique Rahman to visit India along with his family. In a letter to Rahman, PM Modi expressed eagerness to work closely with the BNP leader to strengthen the multifaceted bilateral relationship between the two nations.

The invitation comes as the two countries look to reset relations following a period of tensions during the interim government's tenure.

PM Modi emphasized the historical bonds between the neighbors. "As two close neighbours, India and Bangladesh have a deep-rooted friendship founded on shared history, cultural ties and the aspirations of the peoples for peace and prosperity," he wrote.

He added that the strong convergence between the two nations' developmental priorities would serve as a guiding principle for future cooperation.

PM Modi described Rahman's electoral win as a reflection of the trust and confidence placed in his leadership by the Bangladeshi people. He said the mandate represented public support for Rahman's vision of steering the country toward peace, stability, and prosperity.

The Prime Minister outlined key sectors for enhanced cooperation:

  • Connectivity
  • Trade
  • Technology
  • Education
  • Skill development
  • Energy
  • Healthcare
  • Cultural and people-to-people exchanges

He also emphasized strengthening regional cooperation and advancing shared goals.

Rahman took oath as Bangladesh's new Prime Minister yesterday, marking a fresh political chapter after nearly 18 months of uncertainty under Muhammad Yunus's interim administration.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri represented India at the ceremony.

Led by Rahman, BNP swept to power with a two-thirds majority, securing 49.97 percent of votes and 209 seats in the February 12 elections.
