Sydney’s Bondi Beach Shooting Leaves 10 Dead; Police Seal Area

Panic erupted at Sydney's famous Bondi Beach on Sunday evening (December 14) when indiscriminate firing suddenly broke out amidst thousands of people. According to initial reports, 10 people have died in the attack, while several others are reported to be seriously injured. Approximately 2,000 people were present on the beach at the time of the incident.

According to locals, around 50 gunshots were heard in quick succession in the Bondi area. Several people were seen lying on the ground near Campbell Parade. Following the shooting, a large number of people were seen fleeing the beach in panic. A heavy police presence was immediately deployed to the scene, and the area was completely sealed off.

Australian PM appeals to people to follow instructions

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, police said that one of the attackers was shot dead at the scene, while another suspect has been arrested. Police have appealed to the public to stay away from Bondi Beach and surrounding areas and to remain in safe locations.

The Australian Prime Minister has also appealed to the public to follow police instructions and to avoid going out unnecessarily.

Jewish community targeted

Alex Ryvchin, co-CEO of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, told Sky News that Hanukkah celebrations are held annually at Bondi Beach, attended by a large number of Jewish families. He expressed concern that the attack may have been targeted at the Jewish community. The incident occurred on the first night of Hanukkah, when a large number of children and families are usually present at the event.

Following the incident, the Jewish community in Australia has been advised to stay indoors.

Following the Sydney shooting incident, an alert has been issued in several countries around the world, particularly in those with a significant Jewish population. An alert has also been issued in India as a precautionary measure, and security agencies are closely monitoring the situation.
