Trump Announces Two-Week Ceasefire with Iran After Pakistan-Mediated Talks

US President Donald Trump has announced a two-week ceasefire in the ongoing conflict with Iran, marking a significant diplomatic development amid rising global tensions.

In a statement shared on his social media platform, Trump said the United States would suspend bombing and military operations against Iran for a limited period, describing it as a “two-way ceasefire.” He stated that US forces had achieved their key military objectives and that the pause would allow space for negotiations toward a long-term resolution.

The decision follows discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, who played a mediating role in urging de-escalation. Pakistan has emerged as a key intermediary, with further rounds of talks expected to take place there.

As part of the diplomatic efforts, Iran has reportedly conveyed a 10-point proposal to the United States through Pakistan. The proposal includes commitments related to non-violence, continuation of Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, acceptance of uranium enrichment, lifting of primary and secondary sanctions, and withdrawal of US combat forces from the region. It also calls for compensation to Iran and a broader ceasefire covering multiple fronts, including tensions involving Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Trump indicated that the ceasefire is conditional, stating that Iran must take immediate steps regarding the Strait of Hormuz. The pause in hostilities is expected to provide both sides with an opportunity to step back from escalation and work toward a negotiated settlement.

Reports suggest that Israel has aligned with the US position and agreed to halt its military operations during this period.

The announcement comes at a critical juncture in the conflict, with global concerns rising over energy supply disruptions and regional instability. The next two weeks are expected to be crucial in determining whether the ceasefire can pave the way for a lasting agreement.
