Two Pilots Dead As Air Canada Flight Hits Fire Truck On LaGuardia Runway

A tragic accident occurred late Sunday night at New York's busy LaGuardia Airport, shocking the entire aviation sector. An Air Canada Express CRJ-900 flight from Montreal collided with a fire truck on the runway during landing. The impact was so severe that the captain and co-pilot died on the spot, while 41 of the 72 passengers and four crew members on board were injured, many of whom are reported to be in critical condition.

According to reports, the accident occurred around 11:40 pm (local time) as the plane was landing on Runway 4. At the same time, an Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicle was crossing the runway, having been dispatched to investigate a complaint of an "odor" on another United Airlines flight. The collision occurred, causing chaos at the scene.

Relief and rescue operations began immediately following the accident, and the injured were admitted to nearby hospitals. Two officers on board the fire truck were also injured in the accident. Following the serious accident, LaGuardia Airport was closed until Monday afternoon, forcing the cancellation or diversion of numerous flights and causing significant inconvenience to passengers.

The New York City Fire Department and emergency services arrived at the scene immediately after receiving information about the accident. A Fire Department spokesperson confirmed that they were responding to reports of a collision between an aircraft and a vehicle on the runway.

The Emergency Management Authority has warned people to expect heavy traffic and road closures on the roads leading to the airport. Travelers have been advised to use alternate routes and regularly check their flight status.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched a joint investigation into the incident. Runway coordination or communication failure is initially suspected as the cause of the accident, although the actual cause will only be revealed after the investigation is complete.

Such runway accidents are considered extremely rare in the aviation industry, but whenever they occur, they raise serious questions about safety and air traffic management. All eyes are now on the investigation report, which will reveal how such a significant lapse occurred.
