Violence in Nepal Halts Flights, Four International Services Diverted to Lucknow

At least four Kathmandu-bound international flights were diverted to the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport here today due to the violence in Nepal.

According to airport sources here, Indigo Airlines flight 6E-1153, going from Delhi to Kathmandu, was diverted at 2:30 pm.

There were 160 passengers and six crew members on board the plane. After circling for some time over Kathmandu airport, the plane was diverted towards Lucknow. In coordination with the air traffic control, the plane landed safely at the airport here.

FlyDubai flight FZ-539, from Dubai to Kathmandu, was diverted and landed at Lucknow airport at 3.25 pm. IndiGo flight 6E-1157 from Mumbai to Kathmandu was also diverted and landed at Lucknow and was then sent to Delhi.

The Kathmandu-headed Thai Lion Air flight TLM- 220 from Don Muang International Airport in Bangkok landed here at 3.05 pm. Currently, all the planes except the Mumbai flight are parked at Lucknow airport.

Airport sources said flight operations at Kathmandu airport have been halted due to the ongoing violence that followed the ban on social media in Nepal.

According to sources, the planes will resume their flight after the situation normalises at Kathmandu airport.
