Delhi’s Airport Set to Transform with New Terminal 2 Opening
Travelers Excited as Delhi’s Terminal 2 Gets a Modern Makeover
New Delhi– Relief is in sight for passengers at the national capital’s busiest airport. Delhi International Airport’s upgraded Terminal 2 will reopen on October 26, 2025, just in time for the winter travel rush, promising a smoother and more comfortable experience for thousands of daily flyers.
Closed since April for a major renovation, the terminal is set to deliver a modern, traveler-friendly space. The revamp, led by GMR AERO-headed Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), is designed to meet the demands of the city’s surging air traffic.
Key features include self-service baggage drops, enabling passengers to scan, tag, and check in bags within minutes, eliminating long queues. New boarding bridges with autonomous docking technology, a first in India, will speed up boarding and deplaning while improving safety and wheelchair accessibility.
The terminal’s fresh look is also turning heads. Skylights, sleek ceilings, and enhanced ventilation create an airy, welcoming atmosphere. Improved road access and clearer signage, particularly for passengers with mobility challenges, aim to simplify navigation.
“It’s going to be a game-changer if it’s as smooth as they say,” said Sumit Roy, a frequent flyer weary of the usual airport congestion.
Highlighting the upgrade, DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said, “Terminal 2 is not just a facility upgrade—it’s a complete reimagination of the passenger journey. With innovative technologies like the Self Baggage Drop and autonomous docking aerobridges, we are empowering travelers, optimizing efficiency, and preparing IGI Airport for the future of aviation. As India’s busiest aviation hub accelerates toward its next phase, these world-class enhancements underline DIAL’s vision to deliver an unmatched passenger experience while supporting the country’s growing air travel aspirations.”
Beginning October 25–26, around 120 daily flights, including services by Air India and IndiGo, will shift to Terminal 2 to ease crowding and streamline operations. High-resolution flight-information screens, upgraded fire safety systems, and improved power infrastructure further underscore the focus on comfort and reliability.
As the reopening date approaches, Delhi’s travelers are looking forward to a terminal that reflects the city’s fast-paced energy—and makes every journey a little easier.
