Box Office Showdown: Son of Sardaar 2 vs Dhadak 2 – Which Sequel Ruled the Weekend?
Box Office Clash: Despite positive reviews, Siddhant and Triptii’s Dhadak 2 couldn’t match up to Ajay Devgn’s Son Of Sardaar 2 in its opening weekend.
Ajay Devgn's Son Of Sardaar 2 may have opened to mixed reviews, but the comedy-drama has still managed to take a strong lead over Dhadak 2, which stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. Despite receiving largely positive feedback from critics, Dhadak 2 struggled to convert that praise into box office numbers.
According to data from trade tracker Sacnilk, Son Of Sardaar 2 had a modest start, earning ₹7.25 crore on its opening day. Collections picked up over the weekend, with the film earning ₹8.25 crore on Saturday (up 13.79%) and ₹9.25 crore on Sunday. That brings its first-weekend total to a solid ₹24.75 crore.
In comparison, Dhadak 2 had a slower run. It opened with ₹3.5 crore on Friday, followed by ₹3.75 crore on Saturday and ₹4.15 crore on Sunday, ending its opening weekend at ₹11.4 crore. While not a complete washout, the film is trailing far behind Devgn’s comedy.
That said, both films are facing stiff competition from Saiyaara, the romantic drama featuring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Released on July 18, the film had a stellar debut, raking in ₹83.25 crore in its first weekend alone. Remarkably, Saiyaara continues to perform exceptionally well even into its third week—earning ₹8 crore on day 17—bringing its total close to the ₹300 crore mark.
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, Son Of Sardaar 2 is the sequel to the 2012 hit Son of Sardaar. The film follows Jassi (Ajay Devgn) as he travels to Scotland to patch things up with his estranged wife. But chaos ensues when he finds himself caught in the middle of a mob conflict and a wild Sikh wedding. Now, he must rescue hostages—and his marriage—while navigating cultural clashes and comedic mayhem.
The film also stars Mrunal Thakur as Rabia, along with Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Deepak Dobriyal, Neeru Bajwa, Chunky Panday, Vindu Dara Singh, and Kubbra Sait in key roles. It’s produced by Ajay Devgn under Devgn Films, in collaboration with Jio Studios.
Meanwhile, Dhadak 2, directed by Shazia Iqbal, is a standalone sequel to the 2018 film Dhadak, though it doesn't continue the original storyline. Instead, it adapts the acclaimed Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. The film stars Siddhant Chaturvedi as Neelesh, a Dalit law student, and Triptii Dimri as Vidhi, an upper-caste classmate. The supporting cast includes Saad Bilgrami, Zakir Hussain, and Saurabh Sachdeva. It’s produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, along with Zee Studios and others.
