The legal battle over the massive ₹30,000-crore estate of late businessman Sunjay Kapur has taken a dramatic turn. His children with actress Karisma Kapoor — Samaira and Kiaan — have filed a civil suit in the Delhi High Court, accusing their stepmother, Priya Sachdev Kapur, of forging Sunjay’s will.

This has brought to light deeper family tensions. Senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, representing Sunjay’s mother Rani Kapur, said the real dispute is not just about the inheritance but a clash between Karisma Kapoor and Priya Sachdev over whether a valid will exists at all.

“This fight is really more between Karisma Kapoor and Priya Sachdev — about whether there is a will or not. Rani Kapur is affected by it, yes, but she will file her response and make her stand clear,” Gaggar told ANI. He also noted that Rani Kapur has been named as a defendant in the case because she is a Class 1 heir under Indian succession law.

“As the matter is now in court, it’s not appropriate to comment further. But Mrs. Kapur has been consistent in her position,” he added.

The High Court heard the plea from Samaira and Kiaan on Wednesday, in which they demanded their rightful share in their late father’s vast estate.

On the other side, Priya Sachdev Kapur — Sunjay’s third wife — is challenging the suit. Her counsel, senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, argued that the case is not legally sustainable. He claimed the children had already received a substantial inheritance — ₹1,900 crore — just days before filing the lawsuit.

“It’s not as if these children are out on the streets,” said Nayar. “I am a widow with a six-year-old child. For 15 years, they were not in the picture.”

Sunjay Kapur had a high-profile personal life. He was married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016, and the couple had two children. He later married Priya in 2017. Sunjay tragically passed away on June 12 during a polo match in England, reportedly after suffering a heart attack caused by accidentally swallowing a bee — though this cause of death has not been officially confirmed.

As the estate battle unfolds, all eyes are now on the court to determine how Sunjay Kapur’s fortune will ultimately be divided — and whether a valid will even exists.
