Indian jewellery brand Swadesh made a striking debut on one of the world's most-watched red carpets this year, with Grammy-winning singer Brandi Carlile and actress Catherine Shepherd both wearing exclusive Swadesh creations at the Academy Awards — placing Indian craftsmanship firmly in the global spotlight.

Brandi Carlile arrived at the Oscars wearing Swadesh's "Petal Prism" brooch — a sunflower-inspired piece crafted in gold, featuring an oval-cut emerald at its centre encircled by fine diamonds. The brooch's defining detail is its open-setting technique, which allows light to pass through the stones and dramatically amplify their brilliance. The piece required artisans from Telangana over 100 hours to complete, drawing on goldsmithing traditions passed down through generations in the region.

Catherine Shepherd wore a fluid diamond necklace so supple it draped around her neck like fabric. Inspired by the delicate structure of a feather, the piece features a continuous, flowing strip of hand-set diamonds arranged in a chevron pattern, with a subtle Victorian undertone lending it a timeless, romantic quality.

Together, the two pieces served as a powerful statement about the calibre of Indian artisanship — rooted in centuries-old tradition yet wholly at ease on Hollywood's most glamorous platform. Swadesh's Oscars moment is being celebrated across India's design and handicraft communities as a landmark for homegrown luxury on the world stage.
