Kajol Reflects on Ageing and Self-Image: ‘I Know I’m Headed in the Right Direction’
Kajol, currently promoting her film Maa, shared her thoughts on ageing, saying it’s no big deal as long as you know where you’re headed in life.;

Kajol has always been known for her honesty and unapologetic personality, and true to form, she’s keeping it real once again. Currently promoting her upcoming film Maa, the actress opened up about ageing, self-image, and the complex conversation around cosmetic surgery in a recent chat with Filmfare.
Now 50, Kajol says turning older doesn’t faze her — not when she knows she’s on the right path in life.
“It’s not a big deal. It’s just a reminder to check if you’re heading in the right direction. I believe I am,” she said with her signature clarity.
When asked about cosmetic procedures, Kajol didn’t shy away from sharing her views. She admitted it’s a tricky subject but emphasized the importance of self-awareness and intention behind such decisions.
“Cosmetic surgery is a dicey topic,” she said. “If I had a birthmark that was holding me back in some way, I’d get it removed. For burn or acid attack victims, it’s a necessity. But when it comes to changing something just for appearance — like wanting cheekbones — you have to ask yourself if it’s really necessary. If the answer is yes, go ahead. But don’t do it just because.”
After her appearance in Do Patti, Kajol is stepping into a new and powerful role in Maa, a mythological horror film directed by Vishal Furia and produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Subbarayan.
The trailer, which dropped yesterday, has been earning praise for its gripping narrative and spooky atmosphere. Kajol plays a fierce mother determined to save her daughter from dark forces — a role that taps into both myth and emotion. The film also features Indraneil Sengupta, Ronit Roy, Jitin Gulati, and Kherin Sharma, and is set to hit theatres on June 27.
