Filmmaker Karan Johar was honoured with the National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment for his latest movie, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani. The award was presented to him by President Droupadi Murmu on September 23 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

Speaking to Doordarshan after receiving the award, Karan Johar expressed his excitement and gratitude. “This is my third national award in a row,” he said. “In 2021, we received it for Shershaah, and in 2022, we won best VFX for Brahmāstra. And now, to be recognised for the most wholesome and popular entertainer this year fills me with energy and inspiration.”

He added that winning a National Award feels like a validation of his work, appreciating both the audience and the jury for their recognition. “There are three words in our category — wholesome, popular, and entertainer — so what else does a director want? This award is even more special because my first national award was in the same category for my debut film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. After 27 years, to come back to this category is truly emotional.”

Karan Johar’s journey with the National Awards has been notable. In 2021, he received the Special Jury Award for Shershaah. The following year, he won the Special Award for Best Visual Effects for Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva. This year’s award for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani marks another proud milestone in his career.

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, also marks Karan Johar’s return to directing after a seven-year break since his 2016 film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The film has been praised for its fresh take on romance and family drama, blending entertainment with heartfelt storytelling.

This National Award recognition not only celebrates the film’s success but also underscores Karan Johar’s continued influence and legacy in Indian cinema.
