Actor Karisma Kapoor has acknowledged the outpouring of love and support from her fans and friends on her 51st birthday. The past few weeks have been particularly difficult for her, following the sudden death of her ex-husband, Sunjay Kapur, on June 12. Karisma was present at both the funeral and the prayer meet in New Delhi, standing by Sunjay’s family alongside their children, Samaira and Kiaan.
On Thursday, Karisma shared a brief but heartfelt message on her Instagram Stories, writing, “Thank you everyone for ur warm wishes and support,” along with a red heart and folded hands emoji. This marked the first time she publicly addressed the loss.
A day earlier, her sister Kareena Kapoor paid tribute to Karisma on her birthday with a touching message on social media. Sharing a throwback picture of the two, Kareena wrote, “This is my most favourite picture of you both... To the strongest and the bestest girl in the universe… It’s been a tough year for us.”
She added, “But you know what… as they say, tough times don’t last… the toughest sisters do. To my sister, my mother, my best friend… Happy birthday my Lolo.”
Sunjay Kapur passed away unexpectedly during a polo match in England. His friend and associate Suhel Seth told ANI that Sunjay reportedly died of a heart attack, possibly triggered after he accidentally swallowed a bee during the match. His company, Sona Comstar, confirmed the cause of death as a heart attack in an official statement, though no further details were shared.
Sunjay and Karisma married in 2003 and had two children together—Samaira, now 19, and Kiaan, 13. They filed for divorce in 2014, and it was finalized in 2016.
