Stand-up comedian Zakir Khan has made history by becoming the first Indian comic to headline a Hindi-language show at Madison Square Garden, one of the most iconic stages in the world of entertainment.

The 37-year-old comedian from Indore, celebrated for his witty “sakht launda” persona and heartfelt storytelling, performed to a packed house of 6,000 fans in New York, marking a milestone moment for Indian stand-up and Hindi comedy on the global stage.

Taking to Instagram after the event, Zakir described it as a “big day” and thanked his fans, friends, and team for helping him reach the milestone. “Entertaining thousands in Hindi at Madison Square Garden is overwhelming,” he wrote, calling it a “special moment in his career.”

The performance was part of his North American tour and also featured comedian Tanmay Bhat. Audiences were treated to Zakir’s trademark blend of shayari, observational humour, and personal anecdotes, which has won him millions of followers across India and abroad.

The run-up to the show reflected the grandeur of the occasion. Times Square billboards lit up with his posters, and Zakir appeared on leading American media outlets, speaking about the significance of taking Hindi comedy to such a legendary venue. He also shared a playful cooking session with celebrity chef Vikas Khanna, underlining the cultural crossover of the event.

Speaking to Fox 5 New York, Zakir said: “Madison Square Garden was never part of the plan — it felt like a place for big movie stars, not boys from Indore. But sometimes life goes beyond your dreams.”

Zakir Khan first rose to fame in 2012 after winning Comedy Central’s India’s Best Stand-Up competition. His grounded “aam aadmi” style and hit specials such as Haq Se Single, Tathastu, and Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare cemented his place as one of India’s most relatable comics.

With this historic performance, Zakir Khan has not only added a defining chapter to his own journey but also paved the way for Hindi comedy on the international stage.
