Bollywood playback singer Sonu Nigam had a close call on Monday night while visiting friends in Mumbai. A video circulating online shows the singer nearly getting hit by a car as he stepped out onto the street near a restaurant.
Nigam, who had just arrived at the venue and was greeting photographers, was almost struck by a car that came speeding toward him. He managed to jump aside just in time, with help from his bodyguard. Clearly shaken, Sonu gave a sharp look to the driver before composing himself and continuing inside. Dressed casually in a black shirt, track pants, and red sneakers, he reassured bystanders with a quick, “I’m good.”
Bengaluru Concert Controversy Still Simmering
This incident comes on the heels of a controversy involving Nigam in Karnataka. During a recent concert in Bengaluru, the singer reportedly refused to perform a Kannada song, which drew criticism from both fans and industry figures. The situation escalated further when he linked his refusal to perform the song to the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, prompting an FIR against him.
Trying to make amends, Sonu posted a heartfelt message on Instagram: “Sorry, Karnataka. My love for you is bigger than my ego. Love you always.”
Despite the apology, Kannada filmmaker K. Ramnarayan chose to remove two of Sonu’s songs from his upcoming film Kuladalli Keelyavudo. One of them was a new version of a beloved Kannada classic from the 1965 Rajkumar film Satya Harishchandra. The director expressed his disappointment, saying, “This song holds deep emotional and cultural value in Karnataka. It can’t be sung by someone who doesn’t respect that.”
