Sunny Deol admits feeling 'nervous and excited' about Ramayana, praises Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram: 'Fingers crossed'
Speaking about his role, Sunny Deol said it will be "exciting and fun," while also acknowledging a sense of nervousness and fear.
Sunny Deol, who is set to play Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film Ramayana, recently opened up about the role and his excitement for the project. Speaking with Zoom, the veteran actor shared that while he hasn’t begun shooting yet, he will be stepping into the role "very shortly."
Describing the opportunity as both exciting and challenging, Sunny said, “It’s going to be great, it’s going to be beautiful. There’s definitely nervousness and fear, but that’s the beauty of it. You need to find the strength within yourself to take on the challenge and do justice to it.”
He expressed confidence in the team, especially producer Namit Malhotra, saying, “I’m very sure Amit and the team are doing a great job with it.”
Sunny also hopes Ramayana will raise the bar in terms of visual storytelling. “They’re bringing in those supernatural elements and effects that, hopefully, will be on par with Hollywood. So many versions have been made, and so many Ramlilas are performed — but this film, with the scale and the dedication of the actors, will hopefully stand out and satisfy audiences.”
On working with Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Ram, Sunny had high praise. “He’s a fantastic actor. He commits fully to every project he takes up, and I think it’s going to be great working with him.”
According to reports, Sunny’s role as Hanuman will have limited screen time — reportedly less than 30 minutes in Ramayana: Part 1, which concludes with Hanuman’s arrival and his pledge to help Ram rescue Sita. He is expected to have a much larger role in Part 2.
The film also stars Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. Ramayana: Part 1 is slated for release on Diwali 2026, with Part 2 scheduled for Diwali 2027.
