The long-standing cold war between Sunny Deol and Yash Raj Films is well-known in Bollywood. Their fallout dates back to the mid-90s, following the release of the thriller Darr, and since then, Deol has kept his distance from the production house. So when the veteran actor recently walked into YRF Studios after nearly three decades, it turned heads. But no, it wasn’t to patch things up or sign a new project with them — it was purely professional, and the reason was music.

Sources reveal that Sunny visited YRF last week to meet composer Mithoon, who is scoring the soundtrack for his upcoming film Gabru. The two had planned to meet at Sunny's own recording studio, Sunny Super Sound. However, with Mithoon tied up in an intensive recording session for Border 2 — involving an 80-member choir at YRF — Sunny decided to drop in himself.

"Sunny had initially asked Mithoon to come to Sunny Super Sound," a source close to the production shared. "But when Mithoon couldn’t step away from the session, Sunny, in a gesture of humility, went to YRF instead. There's a great creative bond between the two. After the success of Gadar 2, Sunny has complete trust in Mithoon’s music. In fact, he was so impressed by the compositions Mithoon created for Border 2, he insisted on having him on board for Gabru."

The two reportedly met in the studio lobby and spent nearly three hours discussing the musical direction for the film.

Sunny Deol’s history with Yash Raj Films has been tense ever since Darr (1993), where he felt sidelined in favor of co-star Shah Rukh Khan. The actor was disappointed with how the film was edited and promoted, and as a result, he never collaborated with Yash Chopra or the studio again — until this recent visit for Mithoon.

For Mithoon, 2025 has been a milestone year. His music for YRF’s Saiyaara was a major hit, with the film grossing ₹500 crore worldwide and earning praise for its soundtrack, including the popular track Dhun from the Mohit Suri film.

Meanwhile, Sunny Deol continues to ride the wave of his resurgence. His 2025 release Jaat, an action-packed drama, crossed ₹100 crore at the box office. Now, he’s gearing up for the much-awaited Border 2, the sequel to JP Dutta’s war epic. The film, set for a 2026 release, stars Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, and is being directed by Anurag Singh.

Sunny is also set to appear as Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash.

Despite the complicated history with YRF, Sunny’s recent visit seems to signal that professional respect and creativity can still bring people together — even across old divides.
