World Autism Awareness Day Observed with Awareness Walk at VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital
Doctors, students and community members join awareness walk to promote inclusion and early intervention for autism at Safdarjung Hospital
New Delhi:On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day, the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PMR), VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, organized an Awareness Walk to promote understanding, acceptance, and inclusion of individuals with autism.
The walk was flagged off by Director Dr. Kavita Sharma in the esteemed presence of Medical Superintendent Dr. Charu Bamba; Principal Dr. Geetika Khanna; along with Addl. MS Dr. Shishir Chandan; OPD I/C Dr. Jayanthi Mani; DDA Dr. Ganesh Kumar; Head of Department, PMR, Dr. Ajay Gupta; and Head of Department, Psychiatry, Dr. Pankaj Verma. The initiative was conducted in collaboration with Sushakti Charitable Trust. Blue balloons were released on the occasion, symbolizing hope, awareness, and solidarity for individuals with autism.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kavita Sharma, Director, emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, timely intervention, and community awareness in improving the quality of life for individuals with autism. She highlighted the need for a compassionate and inclusive society that supports neurodiversity and empowers individuals to reach their full potential.
Dr. Ajay Gupta, HOD, PMR, stated that the department remains committed to providing holistic rehabilitation services, focusing on enhancing functional independence and overall well-being of individuals with autism. He also expressed gratitude to Mr. Vijay, President, Sushakti Charitable Trust, for their continued support and collaboration.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from healthcare professionals, students, staff, and members of the community, all coming together to spread awareness and advocate for inclusion.
