With the intention of boosting the country's air defense capabilities, the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Monday, deployed the first squadron of the newly Russian-made S-400 air defence system in the Punjab sector. This is also to tackle the possible aerial threats from neighboring China and Pakistan. Top government sources said that "The first squadron is being deployed in the Punjab sector. The batteries of the first squadron would be capable of taking care of aerial threats from both Pakistan and China."   The foreign secretary of India, Harsh V Shringla, earlier this month, had announced that India's friend Russia has started the deliveries of the surface-to-air long-range missile system. The foreign secretary's statement came soon after the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin visited India. During Putin's visit to India, Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia had praised the S-400 air defence missile systems deal between Russia and India. He stated that the US tried every possible trick to make India opt out of the deal but New Delhi went through. The modern and advanced S-400 air defence missile system was sealed by India in a deal with Russia for ₹ 35,000 crores. As per the deal, Russia would be supplying India with five squadrons for tackling any air threat from up to 400 km. The missile defence system is equipped with four different missiles having different ranges. The new system can take down enemy aircraft, ballistic missiles, and the AWACS planes at four different ranges (400 km, 250 km, 120 km and 40 km). Top sources in the Union Ministry of Defence also stated that the first squadron of the S-400 missile system has been deployed in the Punjab Sector so that the Indian Air Force (IAF) could start focusing on the Eastern borders of the country. The personnel and officers of the Indian Air Force have been trained specially in Russia to operate the system.     Photo-Social Media
