10 Army Soldiers Martyred as Military Vehicle Plunges Into Gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda
At least ten soldiers of the Indian Army were martyred after a bulletproof Army vehicle skidded off the Bhaderwah–Chamba interstate road and fell into a 200-foot-deep gorge near Khanni Top in Doda district, with several others critically injured; a probe has been ordered into the tragic accident.
A very sad news emerged from Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. A bulletproof vehicle of the Army lost control and fell into a 200-foot-deep gorge near Khanni Top on the Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road. Ten Indian Army soldiers were martyred in this tragic accident. Several others were reportedly seriously injured.
How did the accident happen?
According to officials, the Army vehicle, carrying a total of 17 soldiers, was heading towards a high-altitude forward post. At a sharp turn near Khanni Top, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid off the road and fall into a deep gorge. Upon receiving information about the accident, the Army and local police jointly launched a rescue operation.
Rescue Operation and Treatment of the Injured
Rescue teams arrived at the scene and descended into the gorge to rescue the soldiers. Four soldiers were declared dead on the spot. Later, reports emerged that approximately 10 soldiers had been martyred in the accident, while several others were injured. Some of the injured soldiers are reported to be in critical condition and have been airlifted to the military hospital in Udhampur for specialized treatment. Other injured are being treated at nearby health centers.
Tribute to the Martyred Soldiers
The entire military and administrative system has been plunged into mourning following the accident. Senior army officers have expressed deep sorrow, saluting the sacrifice of the martyred soldiers. The administration has also assured all possible assistance to the families of the martyrs.
CM Omar Abdullah Expresses Grief
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep sorrow over the accident. He expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the soldiers who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He also praised the swift rescue and relief operations.
Accident Investigation Begins
The Army has ordered an investigation into the cause of the accident. Initially, poor road conditions and difficult geographical conditions in the high-altitude area are believed to be the factors. Detailed information will be shared after the investigation is complete.
