In the early hours of Friday, BSF personnel shot and killed seven militants near the International Border in Samba district, Jammu and Kashmir, as they attempted to infiltrate into India. The militants are suspected to be from the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed, sources told India Today.

The gunfire began late Thursday night around 11 pm after BSF troops picked up movement along the border. Responding quickly, the forces opened fire and successfully foiled the infiltration attempt. “At around 2300 hours on 8 May 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K,” the BSF said in a statement on X.

Footage from the operation showed BSF forces targeting and damaging Pakistan’s Dhandhar post, which was allegedly being used to provide cover to the infiltrators.

This comes at a time when India and Pakistan are on edge. Just a day earlier, Indian defence forces intercepted Pakistani missiles and drones aimed at military sites in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur, and other locations. The attacks marked a sharp uptick in hostilities.

Pakistan’s offensive was widely seen as retaliation for Operation Sindoor—a series of precise Indian strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir carried out early on May 7. The operation was launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians lost their lives.

As military activity intensifies on both sides, the situation remains tense, and all eyes are now on what comes next.
