Actor Unni Mukundan Summoned by Court in Assault Case Filed by Former PR Manager
Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan has landed in legal trouble after the Kakkanad Judicial First Class Magistrate Court issued a summons directing him to appear before the court.
Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan, known for his recent role in Marco, is facing legal trouble after being summoned by the Kakkanad Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in connection with an assault case filed by his former PR manager, Vipin Kumar. The court has directed the actor to appear on October 27, following a detailed police investigation that reportedly gathered strong evidence supporting the complaint.
The case stems from an incident in which Unni allegedly entered Vipin Kumar’s flat complex with the intent to confront him, leading to verbal abuse, physical intimidation, and property damage. The police investigation uncovered around 10 minutes of CCTV footage, witness statements, circumstantial evidence, and mobile tower location data, which contradicted earlier media reports claiming no evidence existed.
Based on the findings, the police filed a charge sheet under several sections, including 115(2), 126(2), 296(B), 351(2), and 324(4) of the law—covering premeditated assault, issuing life threats, entering private property with harmful intent, verbal abuse, and destruction of personal belongings (specifically, throwing and damaging the victim’s sunglasses). All charges are bailable, and Unni is expected to seek bail as a part of the legal process.
Unni Mukundan had earlier denied the allegations in a press conference, claiming there was no assault and asserting that Vipin Kumar was never officially his PR manager. “This is not a case of assault. There was no physical violence,” Unni stated. He admitted to throwing Vipin's sunglasses during a heated argument but maintained there was no physical contact or harm. He also went as far as saying he would quit acting if proven guilty.
However, following a joint discussion facilitated by the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), it was concluded that Unni’s claims during the press meet were factually incorrect. Based on the evidence presented by Vipin, both organisations stated they would not interfere in the ongoing legal process.
FEFKA General Secretary B. Unnikrishnan and AMMA representatives confirmed that the matter should now be handled strictly through legal channels.
