Air Chief Marshal AP Singh Highlights Air Power’s Decisive Role in Operation Sindoor
IAF chief praises air operations for delivering swift, strategic results against Pakistan in May 2025, including neutralizing fighter jets and striking terrorist infrastructure.
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh on Wednesday emphasized the critical role of air power in modern warfare, particularly highlighting its impact during Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to Pakistan in May 2025 following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Speaking at the 22nd Subroto Mukherjee Seminar organized by the Centre for Aerospace Power and Strategic Studies (CAPSS) in Delhi, the Indian Air Force chief highlighted the effectiveness of air power in conflict zones, according to ANI.
“Air power is the part of our military that has consistently delivered the required results. If we want to be a force to be reckoned with, it is essential to focus on this domain,” Singh said. He noted that whether it was evacuating personnel from conflict zones, striking terrorist infrastructure, or targeting enemy bases in Pakistan, air power proved decisive, delivering swift and impactful results.
Singh added that during Operation Sindoor, air operations sent a clear signal to Pakistan within hours and effectively brought their forces to a standstill. “It was air power that did the trick, and that must be remembered,” he stressed.
Speaking at a press conference during the 93rd Air Force Day celebrations in Delhi, Singh also highlighted the precision and capability demonstrated by the IAF. He revealed that five Pakistani fighter jets were shot down using India’s long-range surface-to-air missile system, the S-400 Triumf “Sudarshan Chakra.”
“The recently procured long-range SAMs allowed us to operate deep inside their territory and prevent their forces from functioning effectively within a certain range,” Singh explained.
He reiterated that air power had proven its value not only in operational success but also as a strategic tool to deter and neutralize threats efficiently.
